Can I help you with that?

8/23/12

Happy Move-In Day! The day we've been waiting for has finally arrived!

@matthewjesnek: Moving boxes!!!!!!!!!! Wah!!!!!!!! #newaq12
@jnnfrklchk: only at Aquinas it's when large mobs of people swarm your car and want to carry your stuff. #newAQ12

Part of our Orientation process involves Helping Hands. This is when returning students, alumni, and faculty help incoming freshman and transfer students move their stuff into their rooms. It's quite amazing seeing so many people swarm a car to unload everything. It really takes a burden off the parents who already have a lot on their mind. Some famous faculty of Aquinas were even helping out, including Brian Matzke, Dean of Students, and our President, Juan Olivarez.

@Abbey_Cordes: move in day commences #newAQ12

I love Abbey's tweet! It may seem very simple, but she's an incoming freshman, who knows about the #newAQ12 hashtag. So it's not just going to be returning students and faculty tweeting this weekend!

@macattack616: About to address the Aquinas College Class of 2016. #newAQ12
@jnnfrklchk: OLs are very excited and loud! #newAQ12
@AquinasCollege: The faculty are ready! Time for Convocation! #newAQ12 http://twitpic.com/amvzzy

Convocation 2012. As our Dean commented, it's like the opening ceremony of the Olympics, where everyone is welcomed. There were a lot of great speakers, including my friend Ian. His main points about making the most out of college included: trust, being devoted to grow, sacrifice, and not being afraid to ask for help. Afterwards, the band played "When the Saints Go Marching in" and the parents said their goodbyes. Hard to believe this was me two years ago right?

@gloctopus: Oh when the saintsssss!! #newAQ12 yfrog.com/oc2lwjej

I can't believe we managed to fit everyone in the picture! With 545 incoming freshman and I think 100 transfers, this is our biggest class in the history of Aquinas College., according to Mlive. It was a little cramped, but it still looks great. I finally got to meet my group for the first time!!!!! They look like a great group and I'm looking forward to getting to know them, in addition to my OL partner Chris and our RA partner Patrick, better.

@jrw003: Never seen a motivational speaker tell the audience they're ugly... haha he was great!

Our main even this evening was a speaker named Joe Martin, who is a college professor in Florida. He travels to numerous colleges throughout the year to speak to incoming freshman and other students. He was fantastic! (I will be doing a separate post about his speech next week).

It was a long day, but it was well worth it. Welcome Class of 2016!
